Our Goals

Our Goals

The German-Nepal Society e.V. ( DNG ) is based on the idea of building a bridge between Nepal and Germany, which is based on the principles of international understanding and respect. This maintenance of the informative relationships was founded when the association was founded on 19. April 1967 in Cologne as the highest principle of the association and is still lived that way today.

The DNG maintains this bridge through a variety of activities. Through events in Germany, the publication of the member magazine Nepal-I and other selected publications, the networking of Nepalese people and Nepalis among themselves up to the support of individual projects in Nepal.

Events

Since its foundation, the DNG – has often organized and promoted lectures, scientific symposia, concerts, dance performances and exhibitions in cooperation with sister organizations with a similar goal.

The Nepal Day in Cologne is a highlight every year. At these all-day events, informative and impressive lectures and discussion rounds are underpinned with a cultural and culinary Nepalese program. The Nepal Day usually takes place on Saturdays, so that the DNG general assembly takes place on the following Sunday.

The Nepal regulars’ table, which always takes place on the first Thursday of a month in Cologne, is an important building block for networking the members among themselves. It is also a first point of contact for people, who are simply interested in Nepal or who are planning a trip or longer stay there. With the support of our first chairman and Nepalese honorary consul Ram Pratap Thapa, so many interested parties are offered support with information and individual advice on their stay.

Our Mission & Vision.

What makes us different?

Publications

The member magazine „ Nepal-i “ is published twice a year. The aim of the magazine is to provide information about Nepal with currently relevant articles and at the same time to examine selected subject areas in more detail. Some articles are articles translated into German by Nepalese authors.
The DNG also promotes publications by selected authors. With part of the proceeds, the DNG supports schools in Nepal and helps with natural disasters.

Project Help

The DNG supports selected individual projects in Nepal from earmarked funds. These projects are generally carried out via an NGO in Nepal itself. Over the years, some Nepalis have also been supported financially in their training and knowledge transfer between Nepal and Germany, or other countries, as well as through contact mediation etc.

Network

The company maintains close contacts with the authorities and associations dealing with Nepal and with sister companies at home and abroad and uses the visits of Nepalese politicians in Germany to exchange ideas. Most of the approximately 800 members of the association have visited Nepal or are otherwise connected to the country. Many of them are professionals who have worked or researched in their field in Nepal.

The DNG is now a forum for all Nepalese friends who are involved in some form with the distant Himalayan state and would like to remain in exchange. The strength of our society lies in the individual commitment of the members who have left their hearts there when traveling or during research stays or who have roots in the fascinating country.
